Money Follows Researcher
In view of the importance of the European Research Area and hence the importance of removing barriers in the mobility of European researchers, EUROHORCs have agreed on authorizing researchers moving into the other organisation´s country to take with them the remainder of a current grant. The grant shall be continued at the new research institution within the original terms and objectives.
The agreement includes individual grant schemes, as well as coordinated research programmes and individual grants that can be detached from them. While the components may vary from one granting organisation to another, a grant will typically include personnel costs, research equipment, apparatus and expendables as well as travel funds. The possibility of a transfer of major investment has to be considered case-by-case taking account of the position of the relinquishing institution and the question of a transfer fee.
The authorisation for a transfer must be requested by the researcher concerned to the granting organisation having provided the grant. The consent of the accepting organisation must also be sought. The remaining period of the grant should normally be no less than six months, for the transferral to go through.
In each individual case the decision on whether, when, to what extent and how a grant is transferred is entirely with the granting organisation. For further information, please contact the concerned organisation.
